Mikey, do I take it from your comment that you're a vet? (And, from your comments, obviously a real one, as opposed to aWol's equally AWOL "service" from the TANG.)

Your point about semantics - "difference of opinon," "policy" - is dead on. Of course, I expect such Orwellian misuse of language from this pack of war criminals, but what astounds me is the extent to which ordinary Americans have internalized it and regurgitate it themselves.

But you're right: Our "leaders" are never going to change, so we have to do it for them. You wouldn't know it from my lack of posts of the last week (on the road again, on deadline, and briefly snowed in again), but reading ibn Laith's post - juxtaposed with the MSM's all-Anna-Nicole-all-the-time bullshit - was a watershed for me. I've been watching the hearings on C-SPAN almost non-stop as I work, and you know what? I'm taking names. And I'm going to do everything I can, in my puny little Jane Q. Public way, to get rid of these bastards, once and for all.

Oh, and I'm loving Russ Feingold lately. His speech yesterday was a joy to behold. Sadly, it was followed immediately by that of Chief Administration War Pimp, otherwise known as Joe Lieberman. I could barely restrain myself from throwing something through the TV screen.

Thank you for this. The horror is too often hidden behind the words. The misdeeds too often categorized as a "difference of opinion". The crimes too often described as "policy". It IS important that the American people understand the real, actual, HUMAN consequences of this illegal occupation. As one who has picked up the hunks and chunks of what had only minutes or hours before been human beings, I loathe the sanitized, video-game views of the horrors unleashed on the modern battlefield. And even when they show a tiny fraction of the pain, the brutality, the madness, they leave after the shooting stops. And in war, that's when the horror just gets started.

I'm sorry. I don't have a solution. As long as American political leadership makes the cold calculation that their careers are best served by keeping the killing going, the killing won't stop. Until enough Americans can force their leadership to understand that ending the bloodshed is the ONLY path to political success, and can actually enforce that message, nothing will change. We must be vocal in our support for the Murthas and the finegolds, no matter how much we may find their other opinions distasteful, and we must replace those who would continue the horror, or even expand it, for their own political success...
