And, yes, “fuck” is an integral part of my vocabulary - with apologies to Mary McCarthy, sort of like “and” and “the.” It’s a lovely word that keeps me sane. (The verb form keeps me sane, too, but I digress . . . .)

Yeah, L, I do tend to use the word pretty often. Being approximately 15-20 years older than you makes “fuck” part of the native language of my generation… when it comes to prose, I may be an old fucker now, but I’m still a fucker. I do enjoy getting the righties’ knickers in a twist, especially if the fuckers get their fuckers tangled in their knickers.

Do you know the book, English as a Second F*cking Language? (The asterisk is part of the original title.) It’s worth a look, even for those of us for whom English is our First F*cking Language.

Hey, S! Incidentally, I noticed that you have the word “fuck” and its variants scattered throughout a recent post. We’re both going to burn in hell . . . .

Seriously, it astounds me how that one little word - four fucking letters, if you will - gets their knickers in such a twist. i firmly believe that no other four letters have the same effect - because, y’know, they don’t mean SEX. As Tbogg would say, “The horror - the horror . . . .”
